Community Health Workers (CHWs) are often the first, and most trusted, connection between communities and the systems meant to serve them. They understand the lived experiences, culture, and challenges of the people they support because they are part of those communities themselves. CHWs help bridge gaps in access, improve communication, and build trust where it is often missing. Their work strengthens prevention, supports care coordination, and helps individuals and families navigate complex health and social service systems. When CHWs are well trained and supported, communities are healthier, systems work better, and care becomes more human. Find out more about CHWs below.
Our updated CHW certification is built to meet the 2026 Texas DSHS core competency updates and aligns with national standards set by the C3 Project Consensus. The course is delivered through self-paced, on-demand video lessons, making it easier for working learners to participate without the barriers of travel or rigid schedules. This format also ensures consistent, high-quality instruction across every module.
Each module includes new video lessons and short quizzes designed to reinforce learning and support long-term retention of key concepts. Learners can revisit lessons and materials as often as needed and move through the course at a pace that works for them.
As a bonus, the program includes workforce development courses, including AI for CHWs, to help learners build future-ready skills. Review the full course curriculum and frequently asked questions below.
By the end of this course, learners will have the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to step into the Community Health Worker role with purpose and professionalism. You will be prepared to support individuals and families, navigate health and social service systems, and communicate effectively across cultures and communities. You will strengthen your ability to build trust, advocate for clients, and apply core public health principles in real-world settings.
This course also looks ahead. In addition to core CHW competencies, learners are introduced to future-ready skills that support today’s workforce. You will learn how to adapt to changing systems, use digital tools responsibly, and build skills that increase flexibility and career longevity. As the CHW role continues to evolve, this course helps ensure you are not only certified, but prepared to grow, lead, and stay relevant in the work you do.
