Resources for CHWs: NACHW Membership

Posted On Jun 29, 2021 |

Being a Community Health Worker (CHW) or any public health professional lends itself to continued education. Not only is it important to implement the tools, knowledge, and clinical integration skills developed in CHW training, but it is also essential to be involved in professional development, where applicable.

Joining a professional organization can provide opportunities and real-world insight into the community served.

Professional Involvement

The National Association for Community Health Workers (NACHW) is a national professional organization whose members are CHWs, CHW Networks, and Ally/Supporter Individuals and Organizations.

From the NACHW Toolkit for New Members:

“NACHW is the first national organization of its kind to unite and promote the collective interests of the CHW workforce through movement building, professional and leadership development, policy and advocacy, technical assistance and research.”

Umemba Health Academy is aligned with NACHW in that both their purpose supports individual development and organizational performance.

NACHW’s Membership Benefits Include:

  • Access to the CHW Member Directory
  • NACHW Monthly Newsletter and Special Edition Releases
  • Members-Only Webinars (1 webinar registration per membership)
  • Professional Development Opportunities
  • Action Alerts on Important Policy Issues
  • All-Member Town Hall Meetings

The CHW Document Resource Center

With a NACHW membership you have access to a curated, searchable online database of documents related to state policy advancements and workforce development practices for community health workers (CHWs).

  • Especially helpful if you are in CHW leadership, state government, FQHCs (Federally Qualified Health Centers), health systems, and other CHW partner organizations.
  • Purpose of this database: to provide information on the process other states, or organizations have gone through in advancing policies around CHWs. Basically, a large collection of “lessons learned” data to see what can be implemented in different areas.

Membership to NACHW is $20/year for CHWs and includes all of the resources mentioned above to frontline public health workers.

Just around the corner, NACHW is set to host their Annual Meeting & Unity Conference July 28th - 29th. The theme for 2021 will be ‘Bringing Hope and Care to Communities’. Click here to register for this virtual event and learn more.
